Japanese adventures
Where: Tomoto japanese Restaurant, Surabaya
What: japanese modern dish
Yes, finally the delayed review of this new restaurant is up! Thanks to my best friend (yes darling I know that you are reading it now) for taking me to this new restaurant.
Taste wise, “ehhh not bad.” Price wise, well it’s cheap but the portion is as big as the price too….
This restaurant shows more on the unique dishes, styles, spices and mixtures of japanese cuisine. Such as the picture here, the salad with the scallop, mixed with plum sauce, mandarin oranges garnish and shaved ginger to add the kick. It’s not what I expected, but yet it’s not that bad at all.
Another dish that we ordered that night was the hamburger with apple. Very very unjapanese to use many sauce and different mixing on a main dish. Too bad that the sauce is a bit too sweet for my palate, but the meat was well cooked. My bestie ordered a fish for main dish. It’s not bad too but the portion is once again is very small. So small until we decided to add pizza.
The pizza is different too…. It’s mixture of nice thin crust Italian pizza with Japanese food topping. Like the seaweed and/or the shaved ginger seasoning.
For dessert we chose, boru boru set (guess it means balls set in japanese). The taste is totally unexpected. However, it’s almost eating like a gastronomic experience of jelly infused with fruity sauces inside it (nope, this is not Anthony Bourdain shows).
Well, for people who wants to try new things and want to be hip in Surabaya, try this restaurant. Still sticking to that hearty home meal of Japanese cuisine, suggest you to find other posting about the other Japanese restaurant in town that more suitable for you.
My Naked Tomato Spaghetti
Last weekend, after a long long delay of trying to cook, finally I cook! Took the recipes from www.smittenkitchen.com. It’s my favourite website as I mentioned before.
The recipes is very simple but yet it took a while because I couldn’t find plum tomatoes around, so I use a regular tomatoes instead, yet the result is delish too!
Go find the recipes and have a blast cooking ;) bring out your girlfriends to help (thanks to my Louise and Lie Liem) or you could brag it to your boyfriend/grilfriend.
Have a great week!
Food n Beer!
What is the best thing to do to make your day better after a hectic morning, the monthly visit, no food for the whole day etc? Food food and beer!
The choice was go to Pizza e Birra in Plaza Indonesia EX, jakarta.
It’s my favourite place in Jakarta, still don’t know why. Maybe because some good memories in here from my old trip with my dearest sister, with the best food and beer around? Well either one, it always a good place to come at anytime, especially when my morning just went awfully bad.
What I order that day was salad, Turkey meatballs Spaghetti and Sangria beer. Simple…. But it always hit the heart in the right spot. The service is always good and the atmosphere in the late afternoon always give my tense nerve an ease.
Well, this just a picture of what I ate that day. For a better picture and feeling, just come to the place it gives you homey feeling somehow. Oh! And it’s not the expensive to get that feeling too ;)
Insalata Caprese
This is from my last trip to Mad for Garlic. This simple Caprese is very good and in a big portion too. The sauce is pesto with a lot of garlic (surprise!). Well, at the first glance, I’m not sure about it. However, when I taste it (of course we always add balsamic vinegar into our Insalata), it is surprisingly good! Don’t know if it’s because we are super hungry, but it’s worth to order.
By the end of our food journey here, we conclude that this restaurant is worth to go. Expensive as I sated before but it has big portion.
They have a big selection of wines, but we don’t have enough time to try it. Maybe next time. We need time to shop anyway ;)
COCO!!! Such an addictive Milk Tea…. Too bad that currently, this milk tea said that it has some bad additive in it…. Hope this is just a false news and the government is not going to ban it :(

Mussel feast Where: Mad for Garlic, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta
What: Mussel with Creamy Garlic Sauce
The mussel is good filled with creamy garlic sauce. It is surprising to find a rare gem in this place. However, the food in this place is great. Big portion too, well worth the price I could say.
The creamy garlic sauce is very good, but it’s very fulfilling for just 1 person to eat it; especially if you already eat some appetizer (like in my case).
I’ll post another food from this restaurant. Worth to try tho!
